Poet-critic Rachel Blau DuPlessis is known as a feminist critic and scholar with a special interest in modern and contemporary poetry, and as a poet and essayist. Blue Studios: Poetry and Its Cultural Work, a book of essays, was published by University of Alabama Press in 2006; in the same year, Alabama reprinted DuPlessis’s classic work The Pink Guitar: Writing as Feminist Practice. Another recent critical book by DuPlessis is Genders, Races, and Religious Cultures in Modern American Poetry, 1908-1934 (Cambridge University Press, 2001). Her books of poetry are Drafts 1-38, Toll (Wesleyan University Press, 2001) and DRAFTS. Drafts 39-57, Pledge with Draft, Unnumbered: Précis (Salt Publishing, 2004). A poem from this book appears in Best American Poetry 2004. Torques: Drafts 58-76 appeared from Salt Publishing in October 2007 and Pitch: Drafts 77-95 is in press with Salt Publishing.

Welcome to the Text Festival.

The Text Festival in Bury is an internationally recognised event investigating contemporary language art (poetry, text art, sound and media text, live art). Opening on 29 April 2011, the next Festival will be its third manifestation and run into July.

Against the background of global stylistic multiplicity, the use of language spans many artforms and may even be a unifying field of enquiry, a new definition and a new field of international linguistic art practice and dialogue. The Bury Festival is the leading focus of language in 21st Century art.

The Festival specialises in experiments, in new experiences, in performances and exhibitions that mix artforms in ground-breaking combinations that challenge traditional language art boundaries and offer artists a forum for dialogue and exchange of ideas.

poe.mi (milan, oct 21st - nov 23rd, 2008) is an exhibition and performing festival that brings writing, media and visual arts together, trying to draw some maps in the territories of artistic and literary production today in italy.

in this first edition, “tiriamo le reti” (let’s pull the nets up), poe.mi focuses on the world wide web, and especially on blogs, as new leading channel for much of the new italian poetry -- in some cases directly in touch with other foreign poets as well as in relation with other kinds of arts, and often with results and qualitative experiences that can easily be compared with traditional paper publishing.

blogs, soon after a few years they first appeared on the internet, seem to have become a very lively context and a contact point for different poetics and literary identities that, not long ago, were very far from each other and in need of a continuous mediation. at the same time, they appear to be the natural environment of literary production that uses the new dimensions and modalities offered by the net.

poe.mi takes place in three different locations in milan, each one dedicated to a specific aspect of the festival: AR.RI.VI (archivio ricerca visiva, via botticelli 8); casa della poesia (palazzina liberty, largo marinai d’italia); il punto rosso (via guglielmo pepe 14).
