PERCEPTION & PSYCHOPHYSICS

#1

Judgments of the location of
short bursts of

noise

          in sentences
were used

to reveal perceptual segmentation
          of sentences.

It was assumed that segmentation

would correspond
to major

          constituent

boundaries.

From 'The active use of grammar in speech perception' by Merrill Garrett, Thomas Bever and Jerry Fodor, 1966, vol.1, nr. 1, p. 30.

PERCEPTION & PSYCHOPHYSICS is a random walk series through dusty issues on and of (sic) taking note – or an applied poetics of attention? © 2006 Jan Lauwereyns
